RENO - The Douglas varsity baseball team got two complete game performances from its pitching staff as the Tigers swept a Sierra League doubleheader from the Wooster Colts Saturday afternoon.
Bryan Miller pitched a one-hitter against the Colts in game one, striking out six and walking five in a 3-2 victory.
Miller was superb on the mound, getting into his only real trouble of the game in the second inning.
After walking Wooster catcher Fernando Benitez, the Colts' Jesse Rasner battled Miller to a walk in an epic 12-pitch at-bat that went 1-2 before he fouled off six straight pitches.
Miller gave up his only hit of the game, an RBI single from Justin Palylyk, in the bottom of the second inning. Rasner then scored on a passed ball, which ended up being the total of the Colts' offensive output in game one.
Chad Walling went 2-for-4 and Jimmy Pierce went 2-for-3 to lead the Tigers at the plate against Wooster pitcher Jake Rasner.
Rasner struck out six and scattered five hits over seven innings.
Douglas scratched together its runs with a Brandon Huff double bringing home Chad Walling in the top of the first, Jimmy Pierce scoring on a passed ball in the top of the fifth and Chad Walling scoring on a Bryan Miller sacrifice after Walling tripled in the top of the sixth.
In game two, Chris Honer went the distance for the Tigers, striking out seven and pitching a two-hitter in a 2-1 win.
Miller and Huff drove in the Tiger runs.
Douglas improved to 22-5 overall, 10-2 in league play with the sweep and swept the regular season series with the Colts 3-0.
The Tiger next host Carson at 3:30 p.m. Thursday.
