Carson High girls tennis coach Diane Roberts was a little concerned after the first round. She didn't need to be.

The Senator girls rolled to a 30-15 win over Truckee on Tuesday at Centennial Park to open the season. It was a tough first round for Carson, but the Senators were able to gain some breathing room heading into the second round thanks to a key win in doubles by Amanda and Liz Gorh, who won their first round match 6-4. That gave Carson a 10-5 lead heading into the second round and the Senators cruised from there.

"It was a good win," Roberts said. "I was a little concerned going into round two. But we did O.K."

Carson was able to win without one of its top players, Kelsey Joyce, who was out with the flu. The Senators also overcame three losses to one of Northern Nevada's top players in Andrea Rogiers.

Michelle Van Epps, Lisa Midboe and Amy Milholland were all able to win all their other matches in singles. Van Epps won 6-0, Midboe won 6-3, 6-0 and Milholland won 6-3, 6-4. Milholland was also able to take two games from Rogiers. Brittany Weltz won 6-4 as well in singles.

"She's going to do well," said Roberts about Midboe. "She's just consistent." She's got a dynamic serve," Roberts also said about Milholland.

In doubjles, Amber Whitworth and Greta Schnaser swept 6-3, 6-1, 6-1, Shannon Arnold and Shanni Eng won 6-1 and Simone Kuckenmeister and and Hilary Schlager won 6-0. In other matches, Melissa Whitcome won 6-2 in singles and Jenny Hood and Kristi Phillipi won 6-1 in doubles.
