The Carson High girls tennis team made sure it wouldn't have to play Northern Nevada power Galena in the first round of the zone playoffs.

Carson secured third place in the Sierra League with a 27-18 win over North Tahoe on Wednesday at Centennial Park. Carson's top two doubles teams of Amanda Whitworth and Greta Schnaser and Simone Kuckenmeister and Amy Milholland swept three matches each to lead the way.

"I'm glad we pulled it off," Carson coach Diane Roberts said. "It was the doubles day for sure. That was a good season end for us."

The Senators (8-2, 7-2) ended the regular season by setting up a first round match on the road this Tuesday against the High Desert League's No. 2 seed. If Carson wins, it would likely play at Galena in the zone semifinals a week from today.

Schnaser and Whitworth won 6-2, 7-5, 6-1 and Kuckenmeister and Milholland won 6-1, 6-4, 6-4. Carson's other doubles team, Shannon Arnold and Shanni Eng won 6-3 and lost two close matches, 4-6 and and 6-7 (5-7).

In singles, Kelsey Joyce won 6-1, Michelle Van Epps won 6-0 and Lisa Midboe won 6-2 for Carson.
