When all the dust settles on the blockbuster trade involving Randy Johnson, Douglas High graduate Shawn Estes could be one of the players indirectly involved with the deal.

MLB.com has reported that among the pitchers the Diamondbacks are talking with are the left-handed Estes and the Chicago Cubs' Matt Clement. Both are free agents. The Diamondbacks interest in Estes or Clement will likely depend on if the blockbuster, seven-player deal in which Arizona would send Johnson to the New York Yankees is completed.

There are still many obstacles to the deal and rumors concerning the trade continue to swirl. Among the obstacles could be the status of Shawn Green.

The Los Angeles Dodgers are also involved in the deal as they would send Green to the Diamondbacks as part of the trade. But Green has a no-trade clause and it's believed he has a strong desire to stay at home in Southern California where he grew up.

Estes went 15-8 with a 5.84 earned run average with the Colorado Rockies last season. Estes also pitched 202 innnings, a career-high.
