Waterfall fire information

Today

A town hall meeting has been set for 9 a.m. today at the Carson City Community Center to brief residents on the Waterfall fire. Officials from the Carson City Fire Department, Nevada Division of Forestry and the U.S. Forest Service will be on hand. The community center is at 851 E. William St. Call 887-2100.

Water

Residents can now return to normal water restrictions. Carson City's water supply has not been contaminated.

Firefighting Objectives

1) Protect life and property.

2) Keep the fire east of the Tahoe Rim Trail.

3) Continue rehabilitation program.

Resource advisers are determining what needs to be done to begin restoring the ecosystem to a healthy state.

Evacuations

Residents have been allowed back into their homes. Lake Tahoe Nevada State Park backcountry is still closed.

Evacuation Centers

Carson High School, 1111 N. Saliman Road, will close today.

Galena High School off the Mount Rose Highway closed Saturday.

Services to fire victims will continue at Carson High School.

Threatened

1,000 residences, 75 commercial buildings and 100 outbuildings, Timberline and Lakeview areas of west Carson City, major power lines to Lake Tahoe, Carson City's water system, timber, wildlife habitat and Comstock-era historic resources.

Today expect partly cloudy skies with scattered showers and thunderstorms with a high of 91 and a low of 64. There is a 30 percent chance of rain with southwest winds 10 to 15 mph and gusts up to 30 mph.
