The Carson 13-year-old Babe Ruth Baseball all-star team advanced to the finals of the state tournament with a 5-3 win over Reno West on Wednesday at Reno's Governor's Bowl.

Matt Rutledge went the distance for the win, and helped his cause going 2-for-3 at the plate. Nate Reno and Pat Riggs also were 2-for-3. Eric Murphy and Kyle Stone both had singles. Carson coach John Simms said that this was the best game his squad had played in the tournament, and that it came at a good time as the Reno West team put up a good fight.

Carson at 3-1 will have to play an undefeated Reno South team in the championship round. Because of the double elimination format, Carson will have to win two games. Reno South beat Carson on Tuesday. Carson will play Reno South at 5 p.m. today at the Governor's Bowl and with a win would force another game at 8.
