School begins in 29 days for most of Carson City School District's students.
The school year begins Aug. 31 with elementary students starting at 8:30 a.m. and high school and middle school beginning at 8 a.m. Elementary students are released at 2:50 or 2:55 p.m., middleschoolers at 2:30, and high school students at 1:55 or 2.
The school year for Capital Christian School also begins Aug. 31. The school day begins at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 3 p.m.
The school year for Bethlehem Lutheran School begins Aug. 31. The school day begins at 8:15 a.m. and ends at 2:45 p.m.
The school year for St. Teresa of Avila Catholic School begins Aug. 30 with a short day from 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
Other early starters are Fremont Elementary students and teachers, who began classes Tuesday at Carson's only year-round school.
Looking south, Carson Valley elementary schools in the Douglas County School District are scheduled to begin Aug. 11. That includes C.C. Meneley, Gardnerville, Jacks Valley, Minden, Piñon Hills and Gene L. Scarselli elementaries.
The school day will be changed so that all elementary schools will start and end at the same time.
Previously, the opening and closing times were staggered at the elementary schools. They will now all start at 8:55 a.m. and let out at 3:10 p.m.
Carson Valley Middle, Pau-Wa-Lu Middle, Douglas High, Kingsbury Middle and Whittell High schools at Lake Tahoe are scheduled to open Aug. 30.
As the openings approach, secretaries will return and should be available to answer questions.
