SUMMER CAMPS: Keep the kids busy all summer long

When school's out for summer, parents are often left wondering how best to keep the kids engaged. No need to worry. There is plenty to do in Carson City and the surrounding areas, and the Nevada Appeal has compiled a list of summer camps. So, settle back and take a look at what's out there.

CARSON CITY

• Kids Summer Break Art Camp: Ages 3 and older. Children's Museum of Northern Nevada, 813 N. Carson St. Making a mess is fun. Just ask any kid. 9-11:30 a.m. June 14-18. $50 members, $65 all others. Snacks provided. More information or reservations 884-2226 or www.cmnn.org.

• Brewery Arts Center Summer on Stage Camp: Ages 6-16. Mondays through Thursdays, July 5-23, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Acting, music, movement. • Tigersharks Swim Team: Ages 5-18. Open tryouts every Tuesday or Thursday at 4:45 p.m. during May. Cost $150. Practices Tuesdays and Thursdays 4:30-5 p.m. June 1-Aug. 31. • Carson City Aquatic Facility: Registration for summer swim lessons is now being held. Daytime and evening classes are available for children of all ages and abilities. For more information, including times, cost and session dates, call 887-2242 or stop by the Carson City Aquatic Facility to pick up a printed schedule and registration form. Information is also available online at www.carson-city.nv.us. The Aquatic Facility is located at 841 N. Roop St. directly behind the Carson City Community Center.

• Western Discovery LLC Summer Tour Camp: Ages 7-12. Pickup at 8:30 a.m. at the old Kmart Building on College Parkway and North Carson Street. Return 4:30 p.m. Weekly sessions June 14-18, July 12-16, Aug. 9-13. Cost $179 per person. Five days of adventure includes Monday Lake Tahoe, Tuesday Carson Valley and Carson City, Wednesday Virginia City and Carson City, Thursday Pyramid Lake and Wild Horse Corrals, Friday Carson City and Washoe Valley. • Christian Music/Drama Camp: Middle-school age. June 7-11, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Hosted by R.O.C.K. Music Ministry at First Baptist Church, Carson City, 1750 N. Mountain St. For students who love to act, sing and dance. Will conclude with a performance June 11 at 7 p.m. Lunch is provided. No fee. You don't need to be a church member to participate. • Carson City Summer Kamp 2010: Monday through Friday, June 14-Aug. 13 from 6:30 a.m.-6 p.m. Kindergarten through 9th grade. Games, swimming, field trips, leadership training. • Space & Science Exploration Camps, Mind Builders LLC: Kindergarten through 6th grade. Strong emphasis on science, technology, engineering and mathematics exploration using some of the latest NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory educational materials.
