A gathering of friends of Dana Robert Backus, 88, a Carson City resident for the past four years, will be at 1 p.m. Friday at 1724 Pinoak Lane.
Mr. Backus died May 30, 2004. He was born April 23, 1916.
He moved to Nevada in 1978 and opened an insurance office. He was a prominent businessman in the Stateline and South Lake Tahoe areas for the past 26 years.
Mr. Backus joined the U.S. Navy as a submariner at the age of 17. At age 19, he joined the Special Forces of the U.S. Army and fought in World War II and the Korean War. He was a prisoner of war in Japan for three years.
Among his survivors are his wife, Audrey; son and daughter-in-law Anthony and Sandy; daughter and son-in-law Eunice and Mark Nance; daughter, Nadji Backus and grandson Christopher.
Capital City Cremation is in charge of arrangements.
