A memorial service for Robert Wayne "George" Quintero, 45, of Schurz will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Walker River Tribal Gym in Schurz.

Visitation is 6-8 p.m. today at the Freitas Rupracht Funeral Home, 25 Highway 208, in Yerington.

Mr. Quintero died June 23, 2004, at home. He was born Feb. 27, 1959, in Reno to Pancho and Alfreda McCloud Quintero.

He was a lifetime resident of Schurz. He attended Mineral County High School and graduated from Intermountain Intertribal High School in Brigham City, Utah.

He was a heavy-equipment operator with Quintero Excavating Co. of Schurz.

In 1999, Mr. Quintero was elected tribal chairman of the Walker River Paiute Tribe, serving until 2002. During his term, he was also elected to be the ITCN president for 2001-2002.

He was preceded in death by his brother Rudolph and his grandfather Manuel McCloud.

Among his survivors are his daughters Miranda and Courtney of Schurz; sons Dexter of Reno, Spencer of Winnemucca and Cassius and Jeffery Williams, both of Wadsworth; sisters Lolia Quintero, Cynthia Twiss and Regina Quintero; brothers Randall and Vincent; his parents; three grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Freitas Rupracht Funeral Home of Yerington is in charge of arrangements.
