Blue Lakes Road scheduled to open for travel on Friday

BISHOP CREEK AREA, CALIF: Gary Olson of the Bishop Creek Resorts (760-873-4484) sent in this report:

Intake No. 2: Very good with Salmon eggs or Power Bait. Thomas Buoyant and Kastmaster lures have also been good.

North Lake: A little slow but some good results with nightcrawlers or Power Bait.

South Lake: Continued to be great. Nothing large reported but lots and lots of fish.

Bishop Creek: Was good with Salmon eggs or Power Bait.

DF&G has been doing a good job stocking.

Weir Pond: Has been good with Parachute Adams or Mosquito flies.

BISHOP CREEK AREA, CALIF: Patti Apted of the Lake Sabrina Boat Landing (760-873-7425) reported:

Sabrina Lake: A great week of fishing. Fishing the inlets with worms has been fantastic. Trolling with gold/red colors doing great in the channels and on the east side. Largest fish was a 4.5 pound rainbow on a nightcrawler.

BLUE LAKES, CALIF. AREA: Dave Kirby of the Woodfords Station (530-694-2930) said the Blue Lakes Road is scheduled to open to vehicle travel this Friday but the campground will still be closed. There will be a gate across the Tamarack Lake Road until the roadway dries out.

BLUE LAKES, NEV: Will open June 12.

BRIDGEPORT RESERVOIR, CALIF: Jim Reid of Ken's Sporting Goods Store (760-932-7707) said, "Fishing is still doing well, mostly bait fishing from shore. A lot of 2-3 pound fish. The Algae is not growing too much at the present time."

CAPLES LAKE, CALIF: The boat ramp is now open to boaters. The launch fee is $15.

CARSON RIVER AREA, CALIF:

East Carson: Is in good shape, the water is clear.

West Carson: Is in good shape, the water is clear.

Mike Wilson of Sacramento caught a 3-pound rainbow on Saturday with salmon eggs.

Dave Kirby said the East Carson, West Carson and Markleeville Creek will be planted by Alpine County with a total of 1,000 pounds of rainbow trout before Memorial Day.

Todd Sodaro at the Carson River Resort (877-694-2229) reported that Alpine County will be planting the East Carson this week.

Salmon eggs is the ticket right now for the East Carson: Richard Ash got a 4-pound, 8-ounce rainbow, John Daily got a 4-pound rainbow and Dan Cardone landed a 2-pound, 14-ounce rainbow.

In addition, Kevin Griffin of Carson City caught a 3-pound, 9-ounce rainbow on a Panther/Martin lure.

CATNIP RESERVOIR IN NORTHERN WASHOE COUNTY: Will open Sept. 1.

DAVIS LAKE, CALIF: Sara at the Grizzly Store and Resort (530-832-0270) checked in and said, " Trolling is rated as fair, off Lightning Tree at a depth of 6-9 feet with Fire Tiger Needlefish lures. Also using Copper Head and olive Woolly Bugger flies.

Shore fishing is spotty, but best at Camp Five, Mallard Cove and off the point at Honker, using Power Bait."

Fly fishermen are using small Blood Midge flies.

HEENAN LAKE, CALIF: Will open Sept. 3.

NDIAN CREEK RESERVOIR. CALIF: Dave Kirby reported that Wayne Gongaware of Woodfords caught two 3-pound rainbows on Sunday from shore with inflated worms.

KNOTT CREEK RESERVOIR, NEV: Will open June 12.

LAHONTAN RESERVOIR, NEV: Missy Swain at Burke's Market at Silver Springs (775-577-2750) said, "The reservoir is about 235,000 acres feet of water.

The wind has been awful and we have had a lot of campers.

No reports of any decent fish.

Beach No. 4 is still best for Walleye and Wipers.

Beach No. 10 is still best for catfish.

Just a reminder that if you do catch something nice, bring it in, so we can weigh it and take a picture.

We are expecting 35,000 people for the holiday weekend and it should be crazy out here."

ONION VALLEY RESERVOIR, NEV: Will open June 12.

PYRAMID LAKE, NEV:

Doug Ouellette of the Gillys Sporting Goods Store in Sparks (358-6113) (www.calvadaflyfishing.com): Pyramid is still happening! A fly fishermen caught and released 30 Cutts, yesterday (Monday) at "The Nets." The fly fishermen are using Popcorn Beetles, Woolly Buggers, and Copper Johns, both with sinking and shooting lines.

SACRAMENTO RIVER, CALIF: Kirk Portocarrero of Outdoor Adventures Sport Fishing, Redding, Calif. (800-670-4448) sent in this report:

Redding to Anderson: Water release is 8,500 C.F.S. Fishing for rainbow trout is great with 15-25 fish days. Catching and releasing rainbows, up to 6 pounds. Using Pheasant Tails, Prince Nymphs, Caddis patterns and egg patterns.

Red Bluff: 573 King Salmon have passed over the Red Bluff Diversion Dam to date. Last year, to date, there were 75 Salmon.

SHASTA LAKE, CALIF: Kirk Portocarrero reported that fishing is good with limits of King Salmon 1-4 pounds and up to 23 inches. Trolling with Shad pattern lures. Catching rainbows and Salmon in the Dry Creek Area. Catching a few browns around the McCloud Arm.

LAKE TAHOE - North Shore:

Mickey Daniels of Mickey's Big Mack Charters (800-877-1462) said: "We've been catching our Mackinaw trout early in the morning and I've been tagging and releasing the smaller ones.

The fishing has been very good but nothing super big.

I troll 250-550 feet deep in the deep-water area in front of Carnelian Bay and King's Beach.

We are using silver, Herring Dodger flasher blades with live minnows or large Apex lures."

Gene St. Denis of Blue Ribbon Charters and Tahoe Trophy Trout at South Lake Tahoe, Calif. (530-544-6552) said he is trolling with a short leader, Herring Dodger flasher blades and live minnows at 180-220 feet deep.

LAKE TAHOE - South Shore:

Gene St. Denis of Blue Ribbon Charters and Tahoe Trophy Trout at South Lake Tahoe, Calif. (530-544-6552) said he has been trolling in the Camp Richardson area with a short leader, Herring Dodger flasher blades and live minnows at 180-220 feet deep.

LAKE TAHOE - East Shore:

Gene St. Denis said, "Cave Rock Shelf has been steady for average sized Macks with a short leader, Dodgers and live minnows at 180-280 feet deep.

TRUCKEE RIVER:

Little Truckee River, Calif: No report.

Truckee River, Calif: Doug Ouellette said the fishing is picking up, a little bit better. The fly fishermen are using Bead Head, Stone Head and Caddis flies.

Truckee River, Nev: No report.

Truckee Canal, Nev: No report.

TWIN LAKES, CALIF. AREA:

Lower Twin: The Twin Lakes Resort (760-932-7751) sent in this report: Fishing is still pretty good.

Lots of limits, up to 2.75 pounds.

Lures, Salmon eggs, nightcrawlers and Power Baits are all doing the trick.

Upper Twin: Mono Village (760-932-7071) reported a 3-pound, 15-ounce rainbow and a 3-pound, 11-ounce rainbow.

Several small browns taken while trolling with Thomas Buoyant lures.

Robinson Creek: Is still hot for stockers up to 1.5 pounds.

VIRGINIA LAKES, CALIF. AREA: Jim Reid reported that both Upper and Lower Virginia Lakes have been good. Matuka and Woolly Bugger flies have been best. Also good for Sierra Gold and nightcrawlers.

WALKER RIVERS: Jim Reid reported:

East Walker (Calif.): The river has been doing excellent for fly fishermen using Caddis flies in the afternoons.

Most fish are averaging 16-17 inches, and go up to 22 inches.

West Walker (Calif.): Starting to shape up. It is getting clear and the water level is going down.

East Walker (Nev.): No report.

West Walker (Nev.): No report.

Little Walker (Calif.): No report.

WILDHORSE RESERVOIR NEV: Dennis Dunn at the Wild Horse Resort (775) 758-6472 said, "The weather is pretty decent today (Monday). We are going to have road construction in this area, all summer."

Norm Budden, Jack Cooke, Don Hettrick, Scott Matheus, Bob "Slick" McCulloch and Don Quilici, all of Carson City, fished last Wednesday and Thursday.

They caught limits of rainbows, up to 17.5 inches, while trolling with No. 2 TOR-P-DO lures.
