A memorial service for Edward James "Jim" Neal, 78, a Carson City resident for the past 10 years, will be at 3 p.m. today at FitzHenry's Funeral Home.

Mr. Neal died Nov. 12, 2004, at Carson-Tahoe Hospital. He was born July 11, 1926, in Dallas, Texas, to Leroy J. and Ruth Florence Cranston Neal.

Before moving to Carson City, he lived in Denton County, Texas.

Mr. Neal was a peace officer for the Denton County Sheriff's Office. He was a 32nd- degree Mason and held memberships in the Masonic Lodge, Hella Shriners and the Elks Club for more than 50 years.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II.

Among his survivors are his wife of 43 years, Helen Louise Cunningham; son Leroy James "Jim" of Plano, Texas and daughter, Constance Carden of Pasadena, Texas.

Memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Crippled Children's Hospital, the American Cancer Society or a charity of choice.

FitzHenry's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
