SILVER SPRINGS - A Silver Springs girl killed in a car accident was identified by authorities on Thursday.
Rose Day, 13, was pronounced dead at the scene of the 6:22 p.m. accident on Wednesday at Highway 95 A and Esmeralda Street in Silver Springs, said Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Joe Winchester.
According to the preliminary investigation, Rose was the front-seat passenger in a gold 1986 Nissan driven by Carol L. Guerry, 26, also of Silver Springs. Winchester said it appears Guerry was stopped in the southbound center turn lane when she attempted to make a left turn onto Esmeralda Street.
Nathaniel Kemp, 67, of Fernley was driving north in a 1978 Chevrolet pickup when Guerry began to cross the northbound lanes. The truck struck the right side of the Nissan, killing Rose, who was wearing her seatbelt, Winchester said.
Guerry was taken by helicopter to Washoe Medical Center where she remained Thursday, but Washoe Medical Center was unable to give information on her condition. Kemp's condition also was not available.
Winchester said Guerry was looking after Rose at the time of the accident.
A copy of the accident report will be forwarded to the Lyon County District Attorney's Office, he said.
"All of our fatals where there's possible prosecution are referred to the county's district attorney's office and that's what will happen in this case," he said.
Guerry will likely be cited for failure to yield, and could be charged with involuntary manslaughter pending the outcome of the investigation, he said.
Alcohol is not believed to be a factor.
