Locals honored on all-league teams

As could be expected with the success that local teams had, Carson Country athletes were well-represented on all-Northern 4A and 3A teams in boys and girls soccer and volleyball.

In boys soccer it's no surprise that Northern 4A champion Carson High was well represented with Loren Wooldridge being named as the Sierra League's Midfielder of the Year. Others named to the first team for Carson were Edgar Gomez, Royal Good and Brian Arce. For Douglas, David Sturgess and Colten Mellows were named to the first team. Honorable mention choices were Carson's Kevin Brush and the Tigers' Jared Price.

In girls soccer, the Tigers' Christina Bradshaw and Carson's Sami Valerius and Cassie Bowman were named among the Sierra League's top players as Bradshaw was the Offensive Player of the Year, Valerius was the co-Defensive Player of the Year and Bowman was the Midfielder of the Year. Other players named to the first team were Carson's Kasey Cano and the Tigers' Krysten Bartsche, Allison Chapman, Alison Pyne, Jessica Maule and goalie Hillary Winans.

Named to the second team were Carson's Morgan Beam and Kathryn Rogers. Honorable mention choices were Carson's Sarah Stalling and the Tigers' Morgan Lefever.

Galena was also well represented on the all-High Desert League team as Donald Harker was named as the Offensive Player of the Year and Brett Wilson was named as the Defensive Player of the Year. In addition, Chris Ewald and goalie Daniel Timko were named to the first team for Galena.

Named to the seond team for Galena were Daniel Hedrick, Nick Carew and Kyle Lancaster. Honorable mention choices for Galena were Steve Denler and Jared Karp.

For the Northern 4A champion Galena girls soccer team, Libby Walker was the High Desert Offensive Player of the Year. Others named to the first team for Galena were Abbie Walker, Kelly Payton, Alyse Iverson, Alia Pirruccello and goalie Caitlyn Anderson.

Named to the second team for Galena was Chelsea Patrick and Jess Dougherty. Alex Nielsen was an honorable mention choice for the Grizzlies.

Among those honored on the 3A level in boys soccer was Dayton's Eddie Lanusa, who set a single season school record with 32 goals in making the Humboldt League first team.

VOLLEYBALL

It's no surprise that NIAA 4A state champion Galena dominated the High Desert League choices as Jenny Burrows was named as co-Player of the Year. Teammates Kate Wallace and Julia Mailander joined Burrows on the first team.

Named to the second team for Galena were Lydia Mailander and Chelsea Appelbaum. Honorable mention choices were Nancy Burrows and Michelle Drury.

For state runner-up Douglas in the Sierra League, Whitney Estes and Kayla Dunn were named to the first team along with Carson's Nicole Scott. Second team choices were the Tigers' Dawson Joyce-Mendive and Cayla Knapp and Carson's Lindsay Ford.

Honorable memtion choices were Carson's Catherine Brekken and Lindsey Kern and the Tigers' Megan Myers and Erin Fitzgerald.

On the 3A level for state champion Dayton, among those honored were Amanda Sbragia, who was the Northern 3A most valuable player and state tournament MVP and Michelle Bowman, who was all Northern 3A first team and all 3A state second team.
