Dayton baseball splits

The Dayton High baseball team received outstanding pitching from Travis Wood and Cory Yoder in a 2-1 win over North Tahoe in nine innings in a Northern 3A game on Saturday at Dayton.

North Tahoe came back to beat Dayton in the nightcap 11-2. In the opener, Jason McKinnon contributed to both of Dayton's runs.

After North Tahoe took a 1-0 lead in the fifth inning, Dayton tied the game in the bottom of the fifth. McKinnon walked, moved to second on Jayce Dillie's sacrifice bunt and scored on sophomore Joe Delaski's double.

In the ninth, Tom O'Brien singled, moved to second on James DeHaven's sacrifice bunt and scored on McKinnon's double. Wood went eight innings, striking out eight, and Yoder retired the side in order in the ninth, striking out one, to pick up the win.

In the nightcap, Delaski, who had been effective in recent weeks, struggled, allowing six runs in three innings. DeHaven went 3-for-4 and drove in both runs for the Dust Devils.

Dayton (9-8, 5-4) is in fourth in the Northern 3A and trying to keep pace with the top three teams, Spring Creek, Lowry and Truckee.
