Dayton baseball sweeps Sparks

Joe Delaski pitched and hit Dayton High baseball team to a dramatic win in the opener and the Dust Devils went on to sweep Sparks in a Northern 3A doubleheader on Monday.

Dayton won the opener 4-3 and the nightcap 11-1. In the opener, Dayton trailed 3-2 going into the bottom of the seventh inning. Brandon Aguilera began the rally with a single and was moved to second on Ryan Shepherd's sacrifice bunt.

Tom O'Brien eventually stole second to give Dayton runners at second and third and Delaski came through with the game-winning single, driving Aguilera and O'Brien home. Delaski went the distance for the win, striking out six and walking none. Delaski had three hits and O'Brien had two hits, including a solo home run in the fifth.

The momentum from the end of the opener carried over to the nightcap as Dayton (2-1 in the Northern 3A) scored three runs in the first inning and never looked back. Cory Yoder pitched a complete game for the win, striking out eight while walking two and allowing two hits over six innings.

Ryan Ransdell had three hits, including a double and a solo homer, and four RBI. Dayton banged out 13 hits. Aguilera had two hits, Yoder went 2-for-2 with a double, Jeff Delaski had two hits with a double, J.J. Burrows had two hits and Joe Delaski tripled.

The game was called after Dayton took a 11-1 lead with one out in the sixth. Yoder and Burrows singled and Ransdell followed with an RBI hit to end the game.
