A judge ordered a 19-year-old man in custody on child pornography charges be released Wednesday to face unrelated probation violation charges in Washoe County.
Christopher Nelson was being held on a $20,000 bail in the Carson City Jail since his arrest July 20 after he allegedly attempted to download from the Internet video files purportedly depicting children engaging in sex acts. The files names, however, were invalid and no video was downloaded.
According to the arrest report, Nelson, a convenience store clerk, allegedly told an investigator he was interested in "how kids that young react to sex." He said he looks at child porn two to three times a month, but does not fantasize about having sex with children, the report states.
Justice of the Peace Robey Willis agreed to release Nelson on his own recognizance to await transfer to Washoe County. Nelson will also undergo a psycho-sexual evaluation prior to a preliminary hearing set for Oct. 5.
"(The evaluation) will see if there is a problem and if there is, we're going to get that addressed," Willis said. "We don't need any other pedophiles out there."
