Carson City

Daughters of Norway host Christmas party

The Daughters of Norway Queen Maud Lodge No. 42 will meet in Carson City at 6 p.m. Thursday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church at the corner of Saliman Road and Highway 50 East.

Gather for an evening of Norwegian food, music, singing, dancing, and other special activities. The whole family is invited including grandchildren and it is a good time to learn about Norwegian and other Scandinavian Christmas customs.

Founded Oct. 20, 2001, the group presents programs to preserve Norwegian heritage; to maintain knowledge of the history, culture and language of Norway; and to build a support system and friendship within the group.

Women are invited to join the lodge that are of Norwegian, Swedish, Danish, Finnish, Icelandic heritage or who are married or have been married to a Norwegian, etc.

Volunteers needed for holiday food drive

Advocates to End Domestic Violence and News Channel 2 and The Food Bank of Northern Nevada will hold their annual Share Your Holiday Food Drive from 6 a.m.-6 p.m. Friday at the North Albertsons. All food donated benefits the clients at Advocates.

Volunteers are needed to help make this event successful. If you can volunteer for one hour or several hours, call 883-7654.

PolyPhaser rep speaks at radio association meeting

The Sierra Intermountain Emergency Radio Association (SIERA) monthly meeting is at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Carson Valley United Methodist Church, 1375 Centerville Lane in Gardnerville.

Tim Thompson, KB7TIM, will introduce the speaker from PolyPhaser Corp.

PolyPhaser Corp. is the acknowledged authority on lightning and surge protection. PolyPhaser products are used throughout the world by governmental and private entities requiring uninterrupted communications.

Community lighting up with challenge

Anyone living in Stagecoach Valley is eligible to enter his home in the Light Up Stagecoach Christmas Lights Contest for the home with the best Christmas lighting display.

Entry forms for the contest are available at Stagecoach Properties, R&S Pizza, the Stagecoach Market and Easley's Antiques & Collectibles.

Winners will be determined by residents of the Stagecoach community.

Anyone, 12 or older, residing in Stagecoach is eligible to vote, one vote per person.

Boxes for voting on your favorite Christmas lights will available at the above locations beginning Sunday and ending Dec. 28. Winners will be informed Jan. 2 and presented with their award at the Stagecoach Improvement District's first meeting next year. For information, call 629-9243.

Virginia City

Senior center plans adventure to see Christmas lights

A See the Christmas Decorations Trip is planned for 5 p.m. Thursday at the Storey County Senior Citizens Center.

Last year's event began with a drive through Idlewild Park in Reno.

For this year's adventure, the group will search for Christmas lights and music.

It will stop off for refreshments during the course of the evening. The van holds nine, so interested bright-light seekers will need to call 847-0957 to save a spot.
