Escaped juvenile still on the run

STATELINE - A 14-year-old boy who escaped Douglas County authorities on Thursday from inside the sheriff's office is still on the run.

The South Lake Tahoe, Calif., juvenile was picked up by sheriff's deputies about 3:30 p.m. after being inside a lower Kingsbury Grade home without permission. A concerned neighbor called dispatch alerting authorities that someone was inside the home, according to Douglas County Sheriff's Sgt. Tom Mezzetta.

When deputies arrived, the boy jumped out of a second story window and ran down the street. He was caught by deputies about a block from the home. The juvenile was taken into custody at the Lake Tahoe Sheriff's Substation in Stateline, where his parents were called to come pick him up. In handcuffs inside the patrol briefing room, the boy managed to slip through one of the cuffs, opened a door and fled. Deputies searched for the boy until about 7:30 p.m.

He now faces escape charges and was last seen wearing a blue jumpsuit, Mezzetta said.
