Carson Symphony names officers for 22nd season

The Carson City Symphony Association Inc. elected trustees for the orchestra's 22nd season at its recent annual membership meeting.

The association is a nonprofit educational corporation and the principal support group for the symphony, conducted by David Bugli, and the Carson Chamber Singers, directed by Judy Monson. The board serves as the administrative organization for the performing groups, raises funds, publicizes concerts, and publishes a newsletter.

Officers and committee chairs for the 2005-06 season are Elinor Bugli, president; Grant Mills, vice president and stage manager; Charlotte Tucker, treasurer and Chamber Singers liaison; Edith Isidoro-Mills, recording secretary and Fallon publicity; Salli Blair, Symphony liaison; Norma Summey, volunteer and membership chairwoman; Andrew Spieker, publications adviser; Rex Reed, nominating and audit committees; and Sue Kitts, "Strings in the Schools" coordinator.

The opening concert of the 2005-06 season, "Celebration of Horses," will be at 4 p.m. Oct. 23 with a preview at 3:15 p.m., at the Carson City Community Center. Guest soloist Lacy J. Dalton will perform some of her hit songs with the orchestra. Proceeds will benefit the Symphony and the Let 'em Run Foundation. Other concerts are Dec. 11, Feb. 26, April 23 and a Sunday in June. Blood donors sought for August Nights

Library presents juggling workshop

Children ages 8 and up are invited to learn to juggle at the Carson City Library on at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Library Auditorium. Juggler and performer Tom Tomashek will conduct a workshop and all participants will receive juggling balls of their own. Register for this program at the Youth Desk or call 887-2244 ext. 1004.

Boston Saloon topic of brown bag lunch

The excavation of Virginia City's Boston Saloon made international headlines with the discovery of a 130-year-old Tabasco sauce bottle.

But the project also yielded important new insights into everyday life, the role of ethnicity in the Wild West of the 19th century and what it was like to walk into a Comstock era saloon.

These discoveries are featured in the video documentary "African Americans on the Comstock," a half-hour episode from the Department of Cultural Affairs' Exploring Nevada series.

African Americans on the Comstock will be shown during a free public Video Brown Bag Lunch at noon on Wednesday at the Nevada State Museum.

Dan Urriola, a dedicated UNR Archaeology Lab volunteer instrumental in reconstructing artifacts from the chaos of fragments unearthed at the site, will lead a discussion about the excavation and its findings following the video.

Boats and more for sale at St. Gall's rummage sale

St. Gall Catholic Church is ready for a rummage sale from 7 a.m.-3 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Food will be served by Grupo La Amistad De St. Gall.

This year, some fishing boats have been donated.
