The Carson Sharks 12 and under softball team had an impressive showing this past weekend in the Fallon Memorial Day Tournament. The team won the Nevada NSA World Berth Qualifier held on Memorial Day Weekend.

Five teams competed in the tournament, coming from Reno, Yerington, Susanville, Carson City, and Fallon. On Saturday the team beat the Reno Predators, which took first place in last week's Fernley Tournament, followed with a victory over the Fallon Heat.

The Sharks lost their third pool game to Yerington, but were able to hold on to a first seed for Sunday's single elimination playoff. On Sunday they beat Lassen in the semifinals. Then they faced Yerington in the Championship game.

Yerington started out with a 1-0 lead in the second inning, but later fell to the Carson Sharks by the score of 9-1. The Sharks defense allowed only three runs on Sunday and scored 17 runs.

The Sharks are scheduled to play three more tournaments this summer - the Walker River Tournament, Gardnerville All-Star Tournament and the Nevada State Championship Tournament which is being held in Carson City on the Fourth of July weekend. The Sharks were awarded an invitation to the NSA World Series Tournament which is being held in St. George, Utah, in July.
