The Carson Junior Pee Wee Silver youth football team defeated the Reno Cardinals 27-0 last Friday in the first round of the playoffs.
Matt Nolan threw for 120 yards and three touchdowns for Carson (7-1). Logan Krupp caught passes for 65 yards and two touchdowns. Nevil Elliott rushed for 127 yards and scored the other two touchdowns. One of Elliott's touchdowns came on a 60-yard kickoff return in which he broke five tackles.
Mikel Hafeman, Willy McDonald, Brandon Akers, Dustin Garza and Sam Blei all played well in the backfield as well.
In addition, offensive linemen Daniel Bacon, Erich Slabaugh, Andrew Cooper, Robby Easton, Dalton Butler, Caden Mitchell, Henry Huffman, and Cameron Arnold.
Having a strong showing for the Silver defense was Alec Donner with a caused fumble, a sack, and a fumble recovery. Tommy Champion also intercepted a pass in the third quarter. Others making a strong showing for the defense were Rodney Calhoun, Tommy Champion, and Jay Milligan. Coach Brad Kiesow said that Jay Milligan had his best defensive outing of the year,
In addition, Jose Galindo, Sage Smith, Curtis Scull, Gunnar Harper, Nathan White, D.J. Parker, Austin Kiesow, Ricky Streight. Rodney Calhoun, Zachary Kind, Mikel Hafeman, Anthony Gonzales, and McDonald all played well defensively.
"We played strong tonight and the team played as a unit and they all played well," head coach Doug Elliott said.
The Silver's next playoff game is against the Reno Jets at 6 p.m. today at Governor's Field No. 1. The winner will advance to the Snow Bowl Northern Nevada championship game.
