A memorial service for Nick Garcia, 72, a Gardnerville resident for the past 37 years, will be at 2 p.m. today at the Carson Valley United Methodist Church in Gardnerville.
Mr. Garcia died Nov. 23, 2005, at Evergreen Health and Rehabilitation Center in Gardnerville following a lengthy illness.
He was born Feb. 18, 1933, in Lincoln, Calif., to Marciano Garcia and Sylvana Padilla.
Before moving to the Gardnerville area, he lived in Colusa, Calif., and the California East Bay area.
Mr. Garcia worked as a lineman for Sierra Pacific Power Co. and also for PG&E in California. He ran his own electrical business after retiring from Sierra Pacific and he also worked for Douglas County.
He was an active member of the Lions Club of Carson Valley, was involved with the Carson Valley Little League program and a member of the Douglas High School all sports boosters club. He enjoyed golf.
He was preceded in death by brothers Ed Guiterriz, Henry Guiterriz, Salvador Garcia and Fred Garcia and grandson Jeffry Le Graves.
Among his survivors are wife, Kathy; sons Michael and Marciano V.; daughters Melissa K. Rapp, Christina L. Morris and Andrea Hope Garcia; brothers Dan, Richard and Charlie; sister Hope Viramontes; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
