A memorial service for Ralph Daryl Smith, 65, a six-year Gardnerville resident, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Carson Valley United Methodist Church.

Mr. Smith died Oct. 27, 2006, in Reno. He was born April 26, 1941, in Maywood, Calif., to Rita Mae Smith.

Before moving to Gardnerville, Mr. Smith lived in Livermore, Calif.

He was a building coordinator at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory before retiring.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1960-64.

He was a volunteer with the Douglas County Senior Citizen's Patrol and a member of the Carson Valley Sertoma Club.

He enjoyed fishing and gardening.

He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Gomer Hyrum Smith.

Among his survivors are his mother; wife Patricia D. Smith of Gardnerville; daughters and sons-in-law Milena and Tim Armbruster of Livermore, Suzanne and Jeff Burton of Vallecito, Calif., Heather and Mike Ludwig of Stockton, Calif., and Kristina and Al Ortizdevillate of Visalia, Calif.; son and daughter-in-law Mike and Allisha MacDonald; sister Betty Duarte of Tooele, Utah; sisters and brothers-in-law Sue and Don La Mance of Gresham, Ore., and Gail and Jeff Neely of Yucaipa, Calif.; and 13 grandchildren.

Cremation will take place at Walton's Sierra Crematory in Carson City.

Memorial donations may be made to disabled veterans, or a charity of choice.

Walton's Douglas County Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
