Michelle Kop and Samantha Wang finished in a tie for fourth place to lead the Carson High girls golf team to a second place finish in a Sierra League Tournament on Tuesday at Wildcreek Golf Course in Sparks.
Carson showed marked improvement over last week's opening tournament in which the Senators took third behind Reno High and South Tahoe. But on Tuesday, Carson had a 513 to finish two strokes ahead of South Tahoe's 515. Reno won with a 481.
Wang shot her all-time low at 95 to tie with Kop. Also for Carson, Grace Ray and Lydia Peri each shot a 102, Sarah Metcalf had a 119 and freshman Chelsea Keating had a 139 in her first tournament.
"It was a tough course," Carson coach Terry Gingell said. "All in all it was a good day. The top four played steady golf. They're looking good. They're improving."
Carson will host the next Sierra League tournament at Eagle Valley this Tuesday.
