The Carson High girls tennis team tuned up for the stretch run of the season with an 11-7 win over Wooster at Centennial Park on Tuesday.

Carson (4-2, 3-1) led the match 8-3 at one point when coach Diane Baker Roberts began making numerous substitutions. "They're having fun and they're improving every day," said Roberts about her team.

The Senators will find out how much they have improved on Thursday when they travel to face Northern 4A power Reno. "Thursday's going to be difficult," Roberts said.

Roberts is confident that her team can make the Northern 4A playoffs and the Senators' playoff fate will be determined next week when they play North Tahoe and Douglas.

One of the highlights for Carson came when Lisa Midboe was able to come back for a 7-6 (7-0) win in her second match. Midboe was down 1-4, 15-40 and was within an eyelash of going down 1-5 when she hit a net cord winner. She went on to hold serve.

Down 4-5, Midboe saved five match points, including one in which she was able to stretch for what looked like was going to be a passing shot winner and turned it it into a winning volley. She went on to force the tiebreaker and won the tiebreaker going away. Midboe also played well in her other match, losing to Wooster's No. 1 player 4-6.

Jenni Hood won 6-0 and also played well in a 6-7 (5-7) loss. Kristen Charles won 6-0 and played well in a 4-6 loss as well. In addition, Lauren Easby played well in a 4-6 loss.

In doubles, Amanda and Elizabeth Gohr won both of their matches 6-0, 6-3, Desi Casci and Elisa Hansen won both of their matches 6-2, 6-0 and Kristi Philippi and Hilary Schlager won both of their matches 6-0, 6-0. Also in doubles, Melissa Whitcome and Sarah Asp won 6-0, Molly Champion and Kelli Hickenbottom won 6-2 and Philippi and Olivia Lesperance played well in a 4-6 loss.
