Jane Auerswald likes to watch businesses grow

Jane Auerswald has settled into a quieter life in Dayton - but that doesn't mean its less exciting than living in the glamorous "OC."


After 30 years of working at small, independent banks in Orange County (population 3 million), Auerswald reversed her lifestyle and career choice. She moved to a town of about 6,000 (Dayton) and climbed into the corporate world.


Auerswald is a new executive with Colonial Bank in Carson City. A smaller population, but a deeper variety of life, she said.


The people here are involved in different and interesting careers, she said. Her social life is just as active. The weather has more variety.


What brought Auerswald and her husband, Howard, to the area was the great housing prices. And they're avid golfers. So, a home at the Dayton Valley Golf Course was the perfect place for them. Moki, their Cocker Spaniel, agreed. He has a lot of space to run.


She said Colonial would like to expand into Dayton and the Minden-Gardnerville area. Auerswald, 59, began working for Colonial Bank as its city/county president on March 1. She has her MBA and a bachelor's degree in business administration.


"Carson City is very important to Colonial because they know it's going to be an excellent base for the bank. This branch has always been good for them."


She said that she would like to see this region be as important to the bank as the Reno region.


"I think I can help in that regard. Carson City itself is coming into a much better position in the state. The town is expanding and it's going to come into its own."


Her favorite aspect of banking is commercial lending, and then sitting back and watching the business grow.




Elizabeth Scott was hired as research manager for the Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada.


Scott will conduct and analyze data to identify economic trends affecting Northern Nevada businesses.


She worked as the development officer for the National Judicial College at the University of Nevada, Reno. There she prepared grant applications, letters of intent and reports to funders. She also designed and implemented an online giving program. Prior to her work at the university, Scott was a manager at Nevada Microenterprise Development Corp.


Scott earned a bachelor's degree in policy management studies from Dickinson College in Carlisle, Penn. She is a member of the Association for Fundraising Professionals and the American Association of Grant Professionals.




Washoe Medical Center was named a 2006 hospital of choice for the winter quarter by the American Alliance of Healthcare Providers, a national organization that helps consumers make educated decisions about quality of healthcare.


Washoe Medical Center was one of 41 hospitals nationwide to be named as a hospital of choice for the 2006 winter quarter.


The awards are designed to find America's most consumer-friendly hospitals based on superior performance in at least one area of consumer concern, including patient satisfaction, code of professional ethics, standards of conduct and the patient's bill of rights.




The Advertising Association of Northern Nevada is seeking nominations for the 2005 Ad Person of the Year Awards. The categories for nomination include the Thomas C. Wilson Award, ad person of the year, promotion person or group of the year, and community contribution of the year. The deadline for nominations is May 1.


The winners of these awards will be honored June 1 at the 2005 Ad Person of the Year luncheon at Harrah's Convention Center from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The cost for the luncheon is $25 for members and students, $30 for non-members, and $200 for a table of eight.

Arnel Pascua has joined Western Nevada Community College as the new vice president for finance and administrative services. Pascua will oversee the finance and budget offices, as well as a number of administrative services.


Before joining the college, Pascua served at Los Angeles City College for 18 years in a variety of positions, including network administrator, college information systems manager and dean of educational technology.


He graduated from the University of the Philippines with a bachelor's degree in metallurgical engineering. Pascua has his master's degree from West Coast University in management information systems.
