Man charged with lewdness

A convicted Washington state sex offender remained in custody Friday on charges he inappropriately touched an 11-year-old Carson City girl.

Desmond Louie Timentwa, 25, was booked into the Carson City Jail on suspicion of felony lewdness with a child under 14 and sex-offender failure to register.

According to the arrest report, the victim said Timentwa was a guest of her mother Wednesday night when early Thursday morning, he allegedly came into her room, crawled into bed with her and began rubbing her back. She said when she told him to stop, he left, only to allegedly come back later and repeat the behavior. The girl said Timentwa never placed his hands under her clothing, but did say he wanted to have sex with her and threatened to hurt her if she told anyone.

Detective Brian Humphrey interviewed Timentwa who admitted he was a Level 2 sex offender out of Spokane, Wash. According to the Washington State Sex Offender Information Center and Humphrey, Timentwa was convicted of child molestation seven years ago in an assault involving a 6-year-old girl.

"(Timentwa) said he had been drinking and he was depressed. He said he wanted to talk with someone and did go into the girl's bedroom. He said he thought the girl was 13 years old," Humphrey wrote in a report. "(He) said he did lay down next to the girl at one time for about 15 minutes. He said he was under the covers 'cuddling' with her."

Humphrey said Timentwa denied he threatened the girl or said he wanted to have sex.

"He said he missed his children and just was lying with her because he did not want to be alone," Humphrey said.

Timentwa allegedly told officers he had not registered as a sex offender in Carson City though he had been in the area since March 29.

According to the Washington State Sex Offender Information Center, a Level 2 sex offender presents a moderate risk to the community and has a higher likelihood of re-offending than the Level 1 offenders. They are considered a higher risk to re-offend because of the nature of their previous crime and lifestyle which can include drug and alcohol abuse. Some have refused to participate or failed to complete approved treatment programs.

Timentwa is being held on $100,000 bail.
