The Senior Service Network is preparing for the annual Senior Celebration, an information fair for the adult community, which offers a wide variety of experts who can offer advice or assistance to anyone who asks for it.
Admission is free, and a canvas tote bag will be given away to the first 1,000 visitors to help them carry home all the free giveaways from participating vendors.
Tables for vendors and sponsors are still available. Cost is $100 for a for-profit business; $75 if vendor is a paid member of the Senior Service Network, and $50 for a nonprofit.
Sponsorship is available at $500 for a gold sponsor, and $300 for a silver sponsor. Either sponsorship amount will receive advertising in the Nevada Appeal. In addition, a gold sponsor will get their logo and name printed on the canvas bag; the silver sponsor will get name only on the bag.
"We have about 60 tables available for the celebration," said Ashley Taggart, treasurer of Senior Service Network. "We ask they contact us before Friday to participate."
To reserve a table, vendors should call Wanda Brown, vice president of the network, at 688-2964, ext. 259; or Taggart at 827-3606.
"AARP will be with us, they're one of our best sponsors," said Brown. "They offer medical program discounts, supplemental insurance and offer education about many things, like the 55/Alive Driver Safety course, which can give a person a discount on their driving insurance."
Senior Service Network provides one-time financial assistance to seniors who are not able to get it anywhere else. The service has helped seniors who may have not been able to remain in their homes, receive medical equipment or necessary medication.
Senior Celebration offers a chance for area businesses who market to the adult community with their services to display their information. From legal to healthcare, and insurance to other business services, the Senior Celebration is an opportunity to showcase their services.
Some of this year's participants include: Nevada Appeal's Silver & Sage, AARP, Carson City Health and Human Services, Carson Nugget, St. Mary's Hospice, Nevada Rural Housing Authority, First United Methodist Church and the Carson City Senior Citizens Center.
The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 22 at the Carson Nugget.
