Democrats hold state convention

Nevada Democrats have set their state convention for April 22-23 at the Plaza Hotel-casino in downtown Las Vegas.

Speakers include Sen. Harry Reid as well as the party's candidates for governor, Senate and the House of Representatives.

Henderson Mayor Jim Gibson and state Senate Minority Leader Dina Titus are running for governor. Jack Carter is taking on Sen. John Ensign, R-Nev. Tessa Hafen is running against Republican Rep. Jon Porter and Regent Jill Derby is seeking the congressional seat being vacated by Jim Gibbons.

Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa will give the keynote address Saturday morning before the candidates address the several hundred Democrats expected to attend.

The convention will conclude with a debate and approval of the state party platform and election of national delegates.
