Gas prices in Carson City increased 28 cents in a month to $2.74, reported AAA Nevada.

The average price of retail gas in Nevada is $2.69, a 24-cent increase from the last AAA survey on March 14. In Reno, the average price is $2.78, a 29-cent increase from the last survey. The national jump was 33 cents to $2.69.

Last year, at this time, Nevada motorists were paying $2.52 for unleaded gas.

"The increase in statewide prices, from Las Vegas to Reno, is really cause for concern," said AAA Nevada spokesman Michael Geeser. "Not only are we paying anywhere from 13 to 30 cents more than we did a month ago but we're still more than a month away from the Memorial Day weekend, which signals the start of the summer travel period."

Gas prices typically increase around Memorial Day, when many Americans start summer vacation road trips.
