Bowman stays hot, but Nevada falls

Dayton's Matt Bowman continued his hot hitting, but it wasn't enough for the University of Nevada baseball team in an 8-3 loss at Pacific in Stockton, Calif., on Tuesday.

Bowman went 3-for-4 with an RBI to raise his average to .385 (50-for-130) on the season.

It was the first game ever that Pacific (22-13) played at its new ballpark, Klein Family Field.

Nevada (15-19) scored and unearned run in the first inning on two hits. With two down Shawn Scobee collected the first hit in the history of Klein Family Field with a single. Scobee would have been caught trying steal second base but Tiger second baseman Adam Ching dropped the ball. Scobee later advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on designated hitter Terry Walsh's single to make it 1-0.

Pacific scored three runs on four hits in the second to take a 3-1 lead. Alex Zanini and Bob Saunders delivered two-out RBI singles in the inning while the third run scored on a wild pitch from Pack starter Ryan Rodriguez.

The Tigers got RBI singles Anthony Jackson and Ramon Glasgow to make it 5-1 in the fifth. Three Pack pitchers were used in the inning, including Carson's Owen Brolsma.

Brolsma pitched a scoreless fourth, but ran into trouble in the fifth. He was charged with two runs in 1.1 innings.

In the sixth Nevada scored a pair or runs on three hits but it could have been more as two runners were left stranded. Leo Radkowski and Dan Eastham hit back to back doubles to score the first run. Baker Krukow followed with a single and pinch hitter Matt Suleski was hit by pitch to load the bases for David Ciarlo. Ciarlo popped up to first base for the first out of the inning. Bowman's sacrifice fly scored Eastham with the second run of the inning Durell Williams was retired on a fly ball for the third out. The two-run sixth inning pulled the Wolf Pack within two at 5-3.

Pacific closed out the scoring with a three-run homer in the seventh by John Devany.

Rodriguez (4-5) took the loss after allowing three runs on five hits in his three innings.

Ty'Relle Harris(4-1) got the win pitching seven innings. Harris allowed three runs, two earned on nine hits. Jason Haar earned his third save of the season pitching the final four innings.

Radkowski, Eastham and Krukow collected two hits each. Glasgow posted a game high four hits for the Tigers.

The Pack return to action on Friday when Utah Valley State comes to Reno for a three-game series. Friday's game gets underway at 6 p.m. while Saturday and Sunday's contests are 1 p.m. starts.
