Parole officials gather in Sparks

Nevada's Board of Parole Commissioners is hosting the International Association of Paroling Authorities next week at John Ascuaga's Nugget in Sparks.

A spokesman said more than 200 officials from the United States, Canada, Australia, Great Britain, Hong Kong and other countries are expected at the conference that runs Sunday through Wednesday.

Appointed and elected officials and criminal justice members from several Nevada agencies will also participate.

Topics on the agenda include: reshaping public opinion about parole for sex offenders, successful transition and re-entry for safer communities, alternative dispositions for technical violators and global-positioning tracking.
