The culinary team from Carson High School hops on a plane 4 a.m. Saturday to head to the national competition in Charlotte, N.C.

Carson High School students Kelly Taylor, Jennifer DeRosa, Chris Wear, Rachel Neitzke and Whitney Hoote will compete for first place and a chance to win full scholarships to prestigious culinary schools. They will spend Sunday, Monday and Tuesday competing. Culinary teacher Penny Reynolds, who is traveling with them, should know by Tuesday night how the students fare.

It is the first time a team of students from Carson High School has gone to nationals. They will compete against 37 other teams preparing preplanned three-course meals.
