Carson City


Governor's Medallion to benefit cancer center


The Carson Tahoe Regional Healthcare Auxiliary will raffle a medallion honoring Gov. Kenny Guinn. First lady Dema Guinn donated the limited-edition medallion, only 10 of which were produced, to the Auxiliary in order to help raise money to benefit the new Carson Tahoe Cancer Center, 1600 Medical Parkway. Raffle tickets are $5 for one ticket or $20 for five and may be purchased at the Auxiliary gift shop at the hospital. The drawing will be Oct. 31 at the Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center. Parks and Rec requests nominations


The Foundation for the Betterment of Carson City Parks and Recreation is requesting nominations of individuals, organizations and businesses to be recognized for their contributions to Carson City's park system.


The selected names will be added to the Memorial Wall at the entrance to the Pony Express Pavilion.

Douglas County


Michael's hosts Scrapbook Discovery Day


Michael's Arts and Crafts Store, located at 911 Topsy Lane, will be holding a free Scrapbook Discovery Day from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday.


There will be four free make-it-take-it projects, five demonstrations and a drawing for the Grand Prize Basket, valued at over $50. For information call 267-1938.




Douglas County Democratic Women to meet Monday


The Douglas County Democratic Women will be holding its monthly luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Monday at the Carson Valley Inn in Minden. This month's speaker is Jill Derby, a Democratic candidate for Congress. Cost is $15 if reserved by today or $18 at the door. For information or reservations, call 267-1239.




Lyon County


Lyon County joint meeting to be held


There will be a joint meeting of the Lyon County Board of Commissioners and the Lyon County Regional Transportation Commission at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the McAtee Building, 2475 Fort Churchill Road in Silver Springs. Persons who wish to attend the meeting and require special assistance are requested to notify the office in writing at 27 S. Main St., Yerington, NV 89447 or by calling 463-6531 at least 24 hours in advance.


Washoe County


Orvis Nursing Clinic offers low-cost vaccinations


The Orvis Nursing Clinic, located at 401 W. Second St., suite 104 in Reno, will be providing low-cost vaccinations on Saturdays starting today in the hopes of bettering Nevada's youth immunization rate, ranked the worst by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.


The clinic's hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays. Cost for those without insurance is $16 for one shot, $20 for two or three shots, and $25 for those receiving more than three shots.


Walk-ins are seen as time permits. For an appointment, call 327-5000.
