A Reno man received minor injuries Tuesday when he allegedly ran a red light at the Mount Rose Junction and was struck by a semi truck.
According to Trooper Chuck Allen of the Nevada Highway Patrol, Jesse Aaron Welshonse, 19, was westbound in a 1985 Toyota pickup at the intersection of Highway 395 and State Route 341 when he failed to stop at a red light at 5:30 a.m. Welshonse's vehicle passed into the path of a southbound tractor trailer driven by Jeff Davis, 39, of Reno and the right front of the Toyota was struck by the trailer, Allen said.
According to witnesses, the semi truck had the green light when it entered the intersection.
Allen said the accident caused southbound traffic to be reduced to one lane while public safety personnel completed their investigation.
"The Nevada Department of Transportation was also on scene quickly to provide temporary traffic control for the busy intersection," he said.
Welshonse was taken to Washoe Medical Center for minor injuries. Davis was not injured.
Matt Jorgensen, 18, a passenger in the Toyota, was also not injured.
Allen said all three men were wearing seat belts.
Southbound travel lanes were completely reopened around 6:35 am.
