Livermore, Weaver will go on to Ward 3 general election

Ward 3 Supervisor Peter Livermore will face challenger Neil Weaver in the general election Nov. 7.

Livermore received 4,036, or 40.57 percent, of the votes. Weaver received 2,333, or 23.45 percent of the votes in Tuesday's primary.

Livermore was watching the Parks and Recreation Commission on television early this evening, then had a dinner party for friends at his home.

"It was a good primary when you get that many candidates," Livermore said. "I was pleased to come up with those numbers. It shows the community is confident with where the supervisors are going."

When Livermore made his first run for the seat eight years ago he had two opponents. That three people ran against him this time "is not unusual or an indication people are unhappy with me," he said.

He also said residents within Ward 3 are good about attending public meetings and "very motivated politically."

"I want to thank the people who had faith in me for their support," said Neil Weaver, who is making his third attempt to obtain the seat. He has sought to represent Ward 3 twice before - in 1998 and 2002 - in runs against Livermore. In 2000, he sought to occupy the mayor's office.

Weaver, 54, owns Weaver Aircraft and serves on the Carson City Airport Authority, currently as its chairman.

"I'm not surprised and I look forward to the campaign," he said. "I intend to refresh their memories."

Charles Kuhn came in third with 1,964, or 19.74 percent. Joe Eiben came in fourth and obtained 1,001, or 10.06 percent. These were the first Carson City campaigns for both candidates, and each spent a lot of time meeting with residents and groups.

While Kuhn said he hoped people heard what he had to say about various issues, Eiben said simply, "if voters want incumbents and status quo, that's what they'll get."

Several other incumbent Carson City public servants were on the ballot but had no opponents: District 2 justice of the peace, assessor, clerk-recorder, sheriff and treasurer.

Ward 1 Supervisor Robin Williamson, seeking a third term, will face challenger Tom Keeton in the general election. Also on the general ballot will be district 1 justice of the peace and district attorney.
