Boy still in hospital after Old Highway 395 accident

A Carson City boy remained in the hospital Wednesday with injuries sustained in a rollover Tuesday on Old Highway 395.

According to Alexia Bratiotis, spokeswoman for Washoe Medical Center, 12-year-old Taylor Michael Parrish was listed as being at the hospital, but she was unable to report his status.

Trooper Ron Larson of the Nevada Highway Patrol said Parrish possibly suffered a head injury and a broken arm in the 4 p.m. accident south of Bowers Mansion on State Route 429.

Taylor was among three other children, Kory Walkama, 10, Jacob Sharward, 11, and Tristin Parrish, 10, heading home after a trip to Chuck E. Cheese in Reno when driver Charlene Mason, 63, of Washoe Valley swerved into the shoulder, overcorrected and the vehicle rolled.

Three of the children were able to get out of the wreckage on their own, but Mason and Taylor had to be extricated by fire crews.

Mason was also flown to Reno following the accident but was treated and released, Bratiotis said.

Larson said the uninjured children reported Mason was possibly trying to avoid an animal in the road when she lost control.
