Old Highway 395 has reopened following a single-vehicle rollover near Bowers Mansion where a woman and child were injured.

Sgt. Ron Larson with the Nevada Highway Patrol said the unidentified female driver and four children were southbound in a vehicle on State Route 429 about 3 p.m. when for unknown reasons the woman swerved, overcorrected and the vehicle overturned.

Three of the children were able to crawl from the wreckage on their own, Larson said, but fire crews had to extricate the woman driver and a boy of about 11 or 12 years old. Larson said the boy likely has a "closed head injury." The boy and woman were flown by helicopter to Washoe Medical Center.

He said one of the uninjured children in the vehicle said something about the driver possibly swerving to avoid an animal.

He said all of the occupants appeared to be wearing their seatbelts.

Updates will be posted as information becomes available.
