A funeral for G. Keith Layton, 81, a five-year Fallon resident, will be 2 p.m. Friday at Walton's Chapel of the Valley.

Mr. Layton died Aug. 15, 2006, in Fallon. He was born Nov. 28, 1924, in Shelby, Mont., to Alvin B. Layton and Maud Johnson.

He married Lucille Smith on July 3, 1947, in Winnemucca.

Before moving to Fallon, Mr. Layton lived in Las Vegas for 16 years and in Carson City for 14 years.

He attended the University of Nevada, Reno and received a degree in civil engineering.

He was a civil engineer for the Nevada State Department of Transportation for more than 34 years.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater.

He belonged to the Elks Lodge.

He was preceded in death by his wife in 2006 and two sisters.

Among his survivors are his son and daughter-in-law, Brent and Lorraine Layton of Las Vegas; daughter and son-in-law Janelle and Richard Bartlett of Corning, Calif.; daughter Valerie Pratt of Reno; brother, David Layton of Battle Mountain; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Burial will take place at Walton's Carson Gardens Cemetery.

Walton's Chapel of the Valley is in charge of arrangements.
