A graveside service for Milton Steinheimer, 89, a lifetime Reno resident, will be 11 a.m. Friday at Mountain View Cemetery in Reno. A reception will follow the service at 7000 Sierra Vista in Reno.
Mr. Steinheimer died Aug. 13, 2006, at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center. He was born Nov. 18, 1916, to Otto and Sadie Steinheimer.
His family owned Steinheimer Brothers' Studebaker and Hartford Insurance Agencies.
He graduated from Reno High School in 1934 and attended the University of Nevada, Mackay School of Mines in 1938 and earned a degree in mining engineering.
He worked at several Nevada and Arizona gold mines. He later became the president of the Minerals and Fibers division of Eagle Picher, Colo. After his retirement, he was retained by Eagle Picher as a consultant.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a captain during World War II.
He enjoyed Lake Tahoe, fishing, hiking, farming and ranching, reading and spending time with his family.
He was a past president of the American Institute of Mining Engineers; had served as president of the Sierra Council of Campfire; supervised the building of the Galena Creek camp buildings and pool and was active in fundraising for Trinity Episcopal Church.
He was an active alumnus of the Mackay School of Mines.
He was preceded in death by his first wife of 51 years, Alyce Mecham Steinheimer; brothers Frank and Otto Steinheimer; and sisters Ethel Steinheimer Hermann and Phylis Steinheimer Frye.
Among his survivors are his second wife, Patricia Herz; children Max and Barbara Steinheimer, Connie Steinheimer and Jeff Ostomel, Lee and Richard Dixon and Roslyn Herz; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Memorial donations may be made to the Tahoe Rim Trail Association, 948 Incline Way, Incline Village, NV 89451; to the Trinity Episcopal Church, 200 Island Ave., Reno, NV 89501; or to the UNR Foundation, Mail Stop 162, Reno, NV 89557.
