Charlie and Karen Abowd are always amazing each year as they support the Carson High School football team.

They started helping out the program when their son was playing, and they still provide a great night out at their restaurant to support the team.

It reminds me of Charlie's parents, who owned the Plateau Seven in San Jose, Calif., and for decades supported San Jose State University's athletics.

I know both Charlie and Karen would say it's no big deal, but this helps keeps the football program alive. It also helps children get involved with sports, band, drama and all the other extra activities.

The fifth annual Capital Auto Insurance Golf Tournament is coming up.

It will benefit the Meals on Wheels program, which delivers hot meals to seniors.

I always talk this program up as more then a nutritious meal being delivered, because it includes a person who is daily checking on and saying a hello to many seniors who have no one.

Come join Jeff Creelman and his buddies at Silver Oaks Golf Course.
