Carson Montessori School will open its doors for classes this week with about 7,000 more square feet, a new playground and an indoor gym.

Cheryl Lynn, the school's administrative assistant, said Monday that the first through sixth grades relocated to a 10,000-square-foot building in North Carson City, while kindergarten will remain at 2210 Lone Mountain Drive.

"We wanted to upgrade and update," she said. "The facility we were in was older and too small."

All grades had been packed into the 3,300-square-foot school on Lone Mountain Drive. With school enrollment at 102 and three first-through-third-grade classes, an expansion was needed, Lynn said. School starts Thursday for first through sixth graders at 2263 Mouton Drive.

"It has an area that will be used as an indoor gym and lunch room," she said. "It's perfect for our needs."

The school is also looking for donations of more playground equipment for its new playground.

Jack Brower and Bruce Robertson, advisers with Sperry Van Ness in Carson City, represented the landlord, the Craig Steele Trust.

The charter school will teach about 75 students at this new location.

"I really enjoyed helping Carson Montessori School find a new location," Brower said in a statement. "The building is beautiful, it's in a great location and is a perfect fit for the school."
