Two new businesses located on Highway 50 East are expecting to open by March.

El Pollo Loco will have its first Carson City restaurant at 1923 Highway 50 E., said Muhammad Sattar, who is the president of Superior Food Service Inc. He owns restaurant franchises in Reno and Sacramento.

Construction on the 3,100-square-foot restaurant, near Saliman Road, should begin by December, pending city approval.

Sattar said he has applied to demolish an old garage and warehouse on the site.

The construction will cost about $2.3 million. When completed, the fast-food franchise known for its flame-grilled chicken will employ 35 to 40 people.

"Carson City is a growing market and a strong market," he said. "I've been in Reno since 1994. Carson City and Reno, they have the same designated market area, the same radio and the same TV. People know about El Pollo Loco, and there is a huge demand."

Site work has started on the new Jiffy Lube at 1810 Highway 50 E. Framing will go up in the next six weeks.

Virginia Sanchez, company spokeswoman, said this location will have various services, including oil changes, automatic transmission services and radiator antifreeze/coolant service.

The 3,200-square-foot building will house seven to eight employs when it opens in March, she said.
