It was difficult to know what to expect from the Carson High volleyball team who opened the season with many new players who hadn't been on the court together for a match.

Carson looks to be coming together quickly after a 25-21, 21-25, 25, 25-11, 25-19 win over Spanish Springs on Tuesday at Morse Burley Gym.

"It was just a matter where we were trying to find chemistry and the second game we didn't have any," Carson coach Shana Wilkins said. "I was happy at how well we played together having never played together before.

"I think we did a good job. We found a little chemistry. This was a good match for us to build a little confidence."

Carson took control of the match in game three behind Nicole Carlevato's hitting. She had two kills and a dink as the Senators built a 6-2 lead. Blaike King had three straight kills during a stretch in which Lindsay Ford served for five straight points as Carson extended its lead to 15-6.

CHS went on to extend its lead to 20-9 on Shannon Earwood's kill. Carson finished off the game on kills by Sandie Howard and Kailey Taylor.

The Senators stayed ahead throughout in game four and Breanna Anderson had two kills and an ace as they built a 20-13 lead. Danae Eckart had two aces and a kill as Carson went up 24-15. After Spanish Springs closed to within 24-19, Eckart's kill off the tape finished off the match.

King had nine kills, Carlevato had eight kills and Earwood, Eckart and Taylor all added five kills. Anderson had four digs and three aces, Hein had five digs, Howard and Ford each had five blocks and Ford had 39 assists.

"We had some good standout performances," Wilkins said. "I thought Nicole Carlevato, Blaike King and Lindsay Ford played really well."
