Toys for Tots seeks regional coordinator

Just two months into organizing the Toys for Tots program for the Carson City area, recently named coordinator Paula Scott said she is not able to keep the position.

"Due to situations beyond my control, I cannot do this," Scott said Tuesday. "I would rather realize it now than drop it halfway down the road and let everyone down."

In June, Scott was named by Dave and Pat Wyble, Toys for Tots coordinators for the past seven years, as the new area coordinator. The Wybles have since moved to Virginia.

Scott is the youth activities director for Community Chest in Virginia City. It is a full-time job in addition to having a family.

"Hopefully someone will come in and take over," she said. "Someone who's retired or maybe two people team up to take it on.

"It was naive of me thinking I would be able to take it on alone. It's a huge job. But I would rather tell others up front I can't do this than fail."

Scott said anyone interested in being the coordinator may contact her at 847-9311, ext. 108, and she will put them in contact with the specialist for Region Five, Melissa Neve.

"I knew these were big shoes to fill, but the reality of it - whew," Scott said. "All the logistics of trying to coordinate with all the entities was more than I was aware of.

"Hopefully someone will come in and I can still give my volunteerism. I would still like to volunteer."
