The Big C would like to "thank" Father Jerry Hanley for putting her in charge of the St. Teresa's Christmas play and EXPECTS the lobster dinner in exchange ("Will work for food!"). Actually, she had a great time, and would like to thank the teachers, kids and mothers - especially Chris Perdomo, Wendy Ray, Sue Matuska and Vicki Hamilton - for all their help. It was very well attended, and everyone had a great time at the play, lunch and bake sale (yummm).

Fred Cessna tells us: "A blonde goes into the post office to buy stamps for her Christmas cards. She asks the clerk for 50 Christmas stamps. 'What denomination?'" asks the clerk. The blonde looks at him and says, 'God help us. Has it come to this? Give me six Catholic, 12 Methodist, 10 Lutheran and 22 Presbyterians.'"

Please pray for our good friend Johnny Johnston. We saw him this summer and spent some quality time with him, but he has gone on Hospice care this week and is failing fast. He asked if you would pray for him. We are, and we hope you will, too. He and his family would be eternally grateful.

BIG SCOOP: Wild Horse Productions is Nevada's newest theater company. Pat Josten, formerly of the Brewery's BAC Stage Kids, has formed a new group with Jeffrey and Carol Scott (the founder of BAC Stage Kids). Their "home" will be the Children's Museum, and their first play will be "Charlotte's Web," with auditions in January. "Joey and Maria's Comedy Italian Wedding" is also in the offing.

And speaking of the Children's Museum (884-2226), it will be holding its "Cracker Shack" workshop this Saturday from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. It's $5 for members, $7 for others, supplies included. And on the next weekend, they will host "Santa Day." So call them and start the Christmas season with joy.

You can also find joy at the Nevada State Railroad Museum's "Santa Train"Saturday and Sunday from 9-4. Free to "children of all ages," you will get to ride the train and talk to Santa. The museum admission is also free, and for $5, you can have your picture taken on the Inyo. Ho, ho, ho.
Thursday, you can take in the lighting of the Capitol for Christmas at 5:30 p.m. with Gov. and Mrs. Guinn, then take a walk to the Presbyterian Church for the lighting of the city tree at 6. There will be singing and refreshments for all. Call 887-1294 for further details.

Have you noticed all kind of things are going on for the season? The Carson City Symphony and the Carson Chamber Singers will be performing Sunday at the Community Center at 4 p.m. While Barbara and Ann of the Genoa Country Store, "the best kept secret in Genoa," will be part of the Genoa Craft Fair on Saturday and Sunday, too.

Cathy Robinson sends us excerpts from some "Holiday Eating Tips:" "Avoid carrot sticks. Leave IMMEDIATELY, and go next door where they're serving rum balls. Drink as much eggnog as you can ... who cares that it has 10,000 calories a sip? It's not like you're going to become an eggnogaholic. And if something comes with gravy, use it. Gravy does not stand alone. Make a volcano of your mashed potatoes, fill it with gravy and EAT IT. But if the mashed potatoes are made with skim milk, don't bother.
"Do NOT exercise. You will have time for that in January. The only time you have now is to circle the buffet table and carry that 10-pound plate of food around. Nap frequently. If you find something REALLY good at the buffet table, like a cookie in the shape and size of Santa Claus or pies, stay there and don't budge. Under no circumstances should you move, for if you leave, you will never see them again. As for fruitcake, no matter how many calories ... AVOID IT ... have SOME standards, for goodness sake. Now, if you can't get up from the table, reread this. Hurry and start over. After all, January is just around the corner. Merry Christmas."

Carson City has just seen one of the worst child-abuse cases in the country put to rest with the imprisonment and sentencing of the three perpetrators. It should be a lesson to everyone to stand up to those who put down, bully, and feast upon the weak, no matter who they are. Thankfully, the children are in a loving home and doing well, but, had no one acted, it might have had a more tragic ending. Heartfelt thanks go to all who made things better for the children.

Maizie saw Ryan Rothchild last week. He looks great, and is currently at the Army Language School in California learning Arabic. She's fervently hoping he'll never have to use it.
