Silver Sage Sams meet Saturday for holiday fun


The Silver Sage Sams will meet at 11 a.m. Saturday at Piñon Plaza to conduct regular business, then hold their Christmas party, which will include lunch and a gift exchange.

Tree lighting Thursday


The Silver & Snowflakes Holiday Tree Lighting will be 5:30-6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Capitol grounds. Santa will be in attendance. For information, visit www.eventsnevada.com.


Singing, hot chocolate and winter fun downtown


There will be an evening of strolling singing groups, cider, hot chocolate, and holiday characters from 6-8 p.m. Thursday in downtown Carson City. Participants can have their pictures taken with Father Christmas, shop, or take a horse-drawn wagon ride down Curry Street. Several downtown merchants are participating. Call 882-6547.




Singer-songwriter Carey coming to Comma


Edie Carey will perform in the last regularly scheduled "Comma Concert" at Comma Coffee on Friday.


Carey is from Boston and is a rising star in the singer-songwriter category that includes her friends Shawn Colvin, Lucy Kaplansky and Jonathan Brooke.


This will be the last in a series of monthly shows that began in 2004 featuring national touring artists. Doors open at 6 p.m., the concert begins at 7. Tickets are $15.50 and are available at Comma Coffee, 312 S. Carson Street, or at www.CommaConcerts.com. Call 220-0995.

Warren Miller film coming to MontBleu


Signaling the start of the winter season, Warren Miller's 57th annual nationwide film tour arrives with the feature "Off the Grid" at the MontBleu Resort Casino & Spa Thursday and Saturday.


"Off the Grid" features the world's best skiers traveling the globe to find the most outrageous terrain.


From Kashmir, India, to Kicking Horse, Canada, winter sports athletes such as 2006 Olympic medalist Toby Dawson and X-Games gold medalists Zach and Reggie Crist embark on a global mission to the steepest mountains down which to plummet.


Presented by Heavenly Mountain Resort and Tahoe Sports LTD, guests will have the chance to win door prizes, including ski and board equipment, Heavenly lift tickets and a Heavenly Season Pass.


MontBleu Theater doors will open at 6:30 p.m. with the movie scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.
