Kemp shut down by UNLV

RENO - Marcelus Kemp has been rock solid offensively through the first seven games.

The 6-5 shooting guard was held to a season-low 1-for-11 from the field and seven points overall in his 32-minute stint in Nevada's 58-49 loss to UNLV Saturday night at Lawlor Events Center.

Kemp only had one field goal in the first 20 minutes, going 1 for 5 from the field, including 1 for 3 from beyond the arc. He missed all six of his second-half field-goal attempts, and his only points (4) came from the foul line.

Besides Nick Fazekas and Ramon Sessions, the team went 5 for 24 from the field.

PIAZZO HONORED

Link Piazzo was honored with a dinner at Lawlor Events Center prior to Saturday night's game against UNLV.

Piazzo donated $1 million dollars to the university last summer. The donation gives Piazzo naming rights for the Legacy Hall ticket office as well as the Peccole Park press box.

He also donated much of his memorabilia from his association with the Wolf Pack and from his World War II memories.

Some of Piazzo's donations are featured on the second floor of Lawlor Events Center.

Piazzo was the original "Voice of the Wolf Pack."

SESSIONS ON A ROLL

Nevada is leading the WAC and is ranked 27th in the nation in assists thanks in part to the efforts of Sessions.

Sessions is third in the WAC with 5.14 assists per game, including a season-high seven Nov. 29 against Louisiana-Lafayette.

On the preseason watch for the Bob Cousy Collegiate Point Guard of the Year Award, Sessions has moved into seventh place in the record books with 355 assists in just 70 career games prior to the UNLV game.

Lyndale Burleson and Kyle Shiloh are also ranked in the top 10 for assists this year.

NOTABLES

The loss broke a 12-game win streak at Lawlor. Utah State was the last team to beat the Pack at Lawlor ...The loss broke a three-game winning streak against the Rebels ... Fazekas now has 49 double-digit rebound games in his career, 48 double-doubles and 92 double-digit scoring games ... The game was technically a sellout, and there were less than 200 fans who didn't use their tickets ... The win gave UNLV a 3-1 record on its road trip... Wendell White continued his solid play for UNLV, scoring 12 points and pulling down nine rebounds.
