Woman arrested for writing bad checks

A 43-year-old Carson City women was arrested on suspicion of more than 60 counts relating to fraud and writing bad checks.

Teresa Wendy Miranda-Sotelo, of Carson City, was arrested Monday on suspicion of 26 counts of felony obtaining money under false pretenses, 26 counts of writing insufficient-funds checks, two counts of felony using a false identity, two counts of felony impersonation of another person, six counts of felony uttering a forged instrument, two counts of gross- misdemeanor making a false statement to obtain a credit, card and one count of misdemeanor violation of bail conditions.

Miranda-Sotelo was also arrested on a felony warrant for fraud from Churchill County.

According to the arrest report, Miranda-Sotelo allegedly opened a checking and savings accounts at a local bank on Nov. 2 using her sister's information.

Beginning Nov. 10, she began depositing checks from a closed account and withdrawing the money, totaling more than $1,800, and wrote bad checks to several local businesses. Miranda-Sotelo also allegedly stole her boyfriend's debit card, according to the arrest report.

She is being held on $23,000 bail.
